    FORMAT: Invited lectures from international speakers will be complemented by podium and poster presentations from symposium participants. Also mini-symposia are invited as per details on the web. Students and young researchers are particularly welcome and prizes have been allocated for the three best student presentations.

    SYMPOSIUM TOPICS

    The following list of topics is indicative and new and innovative advances associated with biomechanics research will be especially welcome. Also papers which emphasise the interdisciplinary links between medical technology, biosciences, computer science and the clinical community are especially welcome.

    * Biomechanics or hard and soft tissue, bone structures, skin, ligaments, tendons, muscles and organs
    * Biofluids and fluid/structure interaction, stents, CFD based design of artificial organs, cardiovascular and respiratory models, vascular haemodynamics, computational pharmaco-dynamics and control, drug eluting stents and biomembranes, particle image velocimetry as a validation tool
    * Cellular and computational cell biology, mechanobiology and bioreactor control
    * Computational techniques in biomechanics: FE, CFD, meshless methods, material point methods, probabilistic/stochastic, large-scale computations and algorithms, multiphysics and multi-patient subject specific FE analysis
    * Impact biomechanics, forensics and injury assessment
    * Multi-level and hierarchical systems, mesoscopic/nanoscopic and atomistic simulation and validation/identification of tissue structures
    * Modelling and control of physiological systems, computational simulation of the nervous systems
    * Damage mechanics, fracture healing and modelling of micro cracks
    * Theoretical biomechanics, constitutive models, simulation of the healing process, morphogenesis/growth/evolutionary strategies, coupled mechanical/porous media/species transport and construction of mathematical and visualization methods to enable development of constitutive laws for tissue structures
    * Modelling and design of medical devices, pre-clinical assessment of TKR/THR and implants systems
    * Joint biomechanics, role of ligaments and muscles, spine biomechanics, knee biomechanics, muscle-ligament interaction and rehabilitation
    * Motion analysis and kinesiology, musculoskeletal sytems and micro-motion data capture techniques
    * Mechanotransduction, functional adaptation, remodeling of biological tissue and cells, simulation of osseogenesis
    * Medical imaging, visualization and simulation with near real-time reconstruction of tissue sections in 3D, virtual reality and medical robotics for 3D reconstruction, diagnostics and surgical planning
    * Dental biomechanics, implants, craniofacial reconstruction, orthodontics, rapid prototyping, masticatory function and restorative materials
    * Tissue engineering and theoretical models, simulation of scaffold/cell scenarios and biomimetic architecture and tissue matching
    * Correlation of experimental/theoretical/biological and histological results, identification procedures and neural networks

    SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS

    Contributed papers will be selected on the basis of submitted abstracts, which should be in English and are not to exceed 300 words (one page). Abstracts are invited by 20 December 2005 and authors will be informed of acceptance by 10th January 2006. One page abstracts should be submitted in MS Word (.doc) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) and emailed to middletonj2@cf.ac.uk.
