  • 2 year Research Engineer post, University of Salford

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Engineer to
work on a Department of Health funded project to develop a
system for the measurement of posture. You will be an all-
    rounder with experience in: the design of mechatronic systems;
sensors; mechanical design, including stress analysis; and
experimental studies. Ideally, you will also have experience of
experimental human movement analysis, although this is not
essential. You will work in a small, friendly, multidisciplinary
team including Dr Sarah Tyson (Physiotherapist) Dr Laurence
Kenney (Bioengineer) and Professor David Howard
(Mechanical engineer). In the first year, you will be responsible
for the design and commissioning of the posture measurement
system, including mechanical design, electronics integration and
software development. In the second year, you will work closely
with a research physiotherapist on the experimental trials.

You will be based in the Centre for Rehabilitation and Human
Performance Research at the University of Salford
    (http://www.healthcare.salford.ac.uk/crhpr/), which has a strong
and rapidly growing research record in assistive devices for
people with disabilities (including prosthetics, orthotics and
FES), human movement analysis and biomechanics. Since 2000,
the Centre has attracted over £2 million in external research
grants, and published over 100 peer reviewed journal papers.
The Centre is a lively and friendly place to work, with a
membership that includes ~20 academic staff, ~6 Research
    Fellows, and ~25 research students.

You should have a strong background in engineering design
(including mechanical design, electronics integration and
software development), the ability to manage a multidisciplinary
project and ideally experience of experimental human movement
analysis. You will have a good first degree in a numerate
scientific discipline, such as engineering or physics, and a higher
degree in an area related to this post, or equivalent relevant
    experience.

If you require further information before applying, please contact
Dr Laurence Kenney informally (l.p.j.kenney@salford.ac.uk, tel:
    +44-161-295-2289).

For further details and an application form visit the Personnel
Division website and apply online at

    Personnel@salford.ac.uk quoting reference number HCP/127.
Please include a CV when submitting the application form, but
note that CVs will not be accepted without a completed
    application form.
