ACTION ALERT:
ANNOUNCING "THE LETTER MARCH TO HOPE"
Every week, at least 25,000 more Americans are permanently
disabled by neurological disorders, which include head and
spinal cord injuries, stroke, Alzhiemers, Parkinson's, ALS,
Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington's, chronic pain, Muscular
Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, and all the other diseases of the
brain and spinal cord.
The fifty million Americans with neurological disorders, and
their families and friends, must unite and take action to
end this epidemic! The same scientific research will bring
effective treatments for all of us. Our top scientists have
affirmed that new treatments for these disorders are within
reach by the end of the decade. But we may have to wait
much, much longer if funding for neurological research is
not increased.
HELP US FLOOD THE HOPE, ARKANSAS POST OFFICE WITH THOUSANDS
OF LETTERS, TELLING PRESIDENT CLINTON THAT HE CANNOT ABANDON
OUR HOPE FOR EFFECTIVE TREATMENTS AND CURES FOR NEUROLOGICAL
DISORDERS. THE RESEARCH OF THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR
NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS AND STORKE (NINDS) MUST BE FULLY
FUNDED ($938 million for FY'95), IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!
Letters should be sent BY OCTOBER 30 to:
President Clinton
P.O. Box 1656
Hope, Arkansas 71801-1656
The "Letters to Hope" will be tallied and delivered to
President Clinton in early November, to try to influence his
1995 budget. In 1994, Clinton recommended a 1.7% cut in the
NINDS budget, which already is so low that 80% of eligible
research grant applications must be rejected. We must tell
President Clinton that this cannot continue!! Hopefully,
the delivery of thousands of letters will become a media
event which will focus national attention on the need to
fund neurological research.

Dear President Clinton;
Today, science has given people with neurological disorders
tremendous reason for hope. Most neurological researchers
now believe that it is not a matter off IF but rather WHEN
effective treatments and cures will be available for
diseases and injuries of the brain and spinal cord.
But without a major increas in funds, progress will be
unnecessarily slow. We urge you to recommend a $938 million
appropriation to the National Institute of Neurological
Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) in your FY'95 budget. Only by
fully funding neurological research will our hope fot
effective new treatments be fulfilled.
Sincerely,
(your name and address)
THISD EFFORT IS BEING COORDINATED BY THE NATIONAL COALITION
FOR RESEARCH IN NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS.
