Department of Health and Exercise Science
The Department of Health and Exercise Science (HES) is an academic unit
within the College of Arts and Sciences that offers a B.S. degree in Health
and Exercise Science, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Exercise Physiology or
Health Promotion. The Norman campus of OU is a comprehensive research
institution with an enrollment of about 25,000 students; the Health Sciences
Center campus is located in Oklahoma City, 20 miles north of Norman.
EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY: Two (2) tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant
Professor (PhD or equivalent in Exercise Physiology required). Individuals
with graduate preparation and research emphasis in exercise biochemistry,
cardiorespiratory exercise physiology, body composition, and/or metabolism
will be given preference, however, all areas of expertise will be
considered. The expectations for these positions include excellence in
teaching, ability to conduct and publish high-level research, ability to
generate external funding, advise students, service on
departmental/university and professional committees, and collaboration with
existing faculty in related academic disciplines.
HEALTH PROMOTION: One (1) tenure track position at the rank of Assistant
Professor (PhD or equivalent in Health Promotion/Health Education/Public
Health required). Individuals with graduate preparation and a research
emphasis in health behavioral theory, health promotion program planning and
development, or chronic disease prevention will be given preference,
however, all areas of expertise will be considered. Position expectations:
see Exercise Physiology position description. One (1) renewable term
(non-tenure track) position at the rank of Assistant Professor (PhD or ABD)
or Instructor (MA/MS). Individuals with graduate preparation in Health
Promotion/Health Education/Public Health will be considered. Possible
teaching responsibilities include Lifestyle Interventions, Program Planning,
Stress Management, Human Sexuality, and Drug Education. Position
expectations: excellence in teaching and advising, serve on departmental
committees, and collaboration with faculty in related academic disciplines.
APPLICATION INFORMATION: Application review will begin on November 7, 2005
for Exercise Physiology positions and December 5, 2005 for Health Promotion
positions. Review will continue until positions are filled (final approval
pending University funding). Starting date is August 16, 2006. Submit
