  • Bioengineering Faculty Position

The School of Engineering at the University of Kansas (KU) invites
nominations and applications for one position in the area of Bioengineering.
Applicants should have demonstrated strong research interests and expertise
in the area of bioengineering that compliment and/or expand our current
strengths in biodynamics, biomaterials, bone mechanics, imaging, motor control,
    neuromotor control, and orthopedic biomechanics.

Rank will depend on qualifications and experience of the candidate. Assistant
Professor applicants should have demonstrated high potential for success in
engineering education, research, and professional service; Associate Professor
applicants should have a strong record in these areas; while Full Professor
applicants should have outstanding records in these areas, with the rank of
Distinguished Professor being considered dependent upon background and
qualifications. The successful candidate will be expected to teach both
undergraduate and graduate level courses, develop graduate level bioengineering
courses, support departmental growth in the area of bioengineering, establish
a strong externally funded research program, supervise graduate student research,
and foster collaboration with other departments including those at the KU Medical
Center. At the Full Professor level, we seek a dynamic leader with a demonstrated
record of research and academic excellence to spearhead the development of strong
research and education ties between engineering and other bio-related disciplines
such as medicine, chemistry, biology, and neuroscience. The efforts of the Full
Professor, in combination with growing faculty research efforts, are expected to
eventually result in the formation of a multidisciplinary bioengineering research
center and a bioengineering graduate degree program.

For a full position description, see http://www.engr.ku.edu/me/employment.htm

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Earned PhD degree in bioengineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely
related field of science or engineering. (For example, candidates with PhDs
in physics or biology may be acceptable for the senior position, depending upon
the level and type of connection and experience with engineering disciplines.)

    2. Demonstrated experience in bioengineering related research (in areas described
in the "POSITION" section) as either part of the PhD dissertation or evidenced by
    research publications.

    3. Evidence of strong potential for research and scholarship (for appointment at
the Assistant Professor rank) or a proven record of research, scholarship and
graduate student mentorship (for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor rank).

    4. Ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the home department.

    5. For appointment at the Full Professor rank, applicants must be eligible for
a tenured faculty appointment at the appropriate rank at KU.

    APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

Letters of application or nominations should be sent to:

    Bioengineering Search Committee Chair
    Department of Mechanical Engineering
    University of Kansas
    3138 Learned Hall, 1530 W. 15th Street
    Lawrence, Kansas, 66045

or emailed to the search application coordinator: cgonce@ku.edu.

A complete application should include a letter of application, curriculum vitae,
a description of research and teaching interests and the names, addresses and
phone numbers of three references. Review of applications begins December 15, 2005 and will continue until selections are made.
