GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP POSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR FALL 2006
LABORATORY OF INTEGRATED PHYSIOLOGY - UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON

The Laboratory of Integrated Physiology at the University of Houston has
graduate assistantship positions available to pursue a MS/PhD degree
starting Fall of 2006. The Laboratory of Integrated Physiology was
established to create a research environment that has no walls.
Physiologist, engineers and clinicians work together to establish new
insights on human and animal movement. Research projects in the lab
range from analysis of the role of somatosensory input on muscle
contractions to the exploration of Newtonian forces on the stability of
gait patterns. The vibrant scientific environment and strong ties with
NASA's Johnson Space Center, the Texas Medical Center and Moody Gardens
offers a unique collaborative research opportunities for developing
    scientists.

DEGREES OFFERED: Interested student can pursue the following academic
tracks: MS in Exercise Science, PhD in Kinesiology (emphasis in
Biomechanics and Motor Control). Further information about the degree
and entrance requirements can be found on the department
    webpage:http://hhp.uh.edu/

Outstanding students from the biological and engineering sciences are
    encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES: There is a variety of positions available with both
teaching and/or research assignments. Assignments will be based on the
student's interests and capabilities. Duties include subject
recruitment, data collection and reduction for research, laboratory
maintenance, and teaching of undergraduate courses.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: B.S. or M.S. in Exercise Science, Biology,
Physiology, Biomechanics, Biomedical Engineering or related field.
Students with experiences in computer programming (Labview, Matlab or
C++), biomechanics data collection and professional writing skills are
    encouraged to apply.

SETTING: The Laboratory of Integrated Physiology is situated on the
University Houston campus. It is a fully equipped human
performance/physiology/biochemistry laboratory. The laboratory is made
up of a biochemical analysis area (1400 sq. feet), a biomechanical
testing area (2400 sq. feet), an exercise/strength testing area (2100
sq. feet) and a separate minor surgical procedure room (140 sq. feet).
Biomechanical related equipment in the lab includes two high speed
motion capture systems (Optotrak and APAS), goniometers, accelerometers,
AMTI force plates, eight channel Delsys EMG, Biodex dynamometer, three
body weight suspension systems, metabolic gas analyzer cart, vibration
plates and DEXA whole body scan.
