speed measurement techniques

To measure the speed of humans walking or running along a track, I
have previously used photocells. I am looking for a new system that
will give a more continuous measure of forward speed in humans. I
was wondering if anyone has used a sonic or radar device to measure
the speed of overground walking and running. If you know of any
such system, I would be very interested to hear about it.
