A funded PhD studentship is availabel in the Sports Biomechanics Research
Group at Loughborugh University for a project entitled:
Analysis of the contribution of soft tissue motion to energy dissipation,
force distribution, segment kinematics and segment kinetics during impacts.
Summary of project.
In impact situations the transient forces involved are normally high and
produce mechanical shocks. The aim of this research is to determine the
contribution of soft tissue motion to energy dissipation, force
distribution, segment kinematics and segment kinetics during impacts. This
will require high frequency 3-D data of intra-segmental tissue motion to be
obtained from live participants undergoing a range of impacts. Then using
the frequency and amplitude measurements of the intra-segmental motion, the
force and energy transfer within a body segment will be calculated. This
will utilise automatic motion analysis systems, computational software and
some computer programming.
