ORTHOTIC RESEARCH AND LOCOMOTOR ASSESSMENT UNIT (ORLAU)
TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
BAND 8b (£40,036 to £49,496)
The successful applicant for this key role within a team of surgeons, physiotherapists and bioengineers and engineers in the Orthotic Research and Locomotor Assessment Unit will:-
* Lead ORLAU engineering development and research within the Trust's Mobility programme.
* Build and maintain collaborative links with industrial and academic partners.
* Manage and develop a team of professional and technical rehabilitation engineering staff.
* Participate in the unit's programme of training and education activities.
* In conjunction with the Medical Director encourage and develop multidisciplinary participation in all aspects of ORLAU's work.
ORLAU has earned an international reputation for quality in research and development in the field of rehabilitation engineering and gait assessment. Clinical services include the assessment of mobility disorders, treatment planning and provision of complex orthotics and mobility devices. Education of health professionals in the management of mobility impairment is a key ORLAU activity.
The candidate profile includes:-
* A degree in a relevant engineering discipline with a comprehensive CPD portfolio.
* Chartered Engineer and Registered Clinical Scientist status, or willing to achieve the latter following appointment.
* Experience in winning and running successful research & development programmes within engineering or biomedical fields and a portfolio of related publications
* An enthusiasm for mechanical engineering in a clinical context to enhance the quality of life of children and adults with movement disorders.
* Excellent teaching and presentation skills.
