Position Offered: Research Biomotion Laboratory Engineer

Organization: Department of Veterans Affairs/Rehabilitation Research
    and Development Center

    Geographic Location: Palo Alto, CA

    Deadline: March 15, 2006

    Job Description:

The Rehabilitation Research and Development (RR&D) Center is a research
facility investigating movement dysfunction in orthopaedic and
neurologically impaired populations and houses nine Principal
Investigators with a research focus on bone and joint rehabilitation.
Center funding is derived from the VA Rehabilitation R&D service, NIH
and the Whitaker Foundation and other extramural agencies. Active
collaborations exist between the RR&D Center and motion labs at
Stanford University in the Departments of Bioengineering and Mechanical
    Engineering.

The Biomotion Laboratory is a Core laboratory shared among the RR&D
Center Principal Investigators. At this time four PI’s employ the lab
for a variety of motion applications. The lab is equipped with eight
high-speed digital motion capture cameras (Qualisys), three force
plates (Bertec and AMTI), and a 16-channel EMG system (Motion Lab
Systems). Among software available is Qualisys Trac Manager and Visual
    3D.

The candidate chosen for this position will serve as a Biomotion
Laboratory Engineer on RR&D projects and will use a variety of complex
engineering skills, working with multi-disciplinary teams to find
solutions to difficult, previously unsolved rehabilitation engineering
problems. The candidate is expected to act as technical lead within the
Biomotion Laboratory providing technical support and expertise in
biomechanics and 3D motion capture for basic and clinical research
studies. The candidate will also implement and conduct research and
development projects. Other duties will include, but not be limited to

    Activities

    ·     Acts as technical lead within the Biomotion Laboratory providing
technical support and expertise in biomechanics and 3D motion capture
for fundamental and clinical research studies. Implements and conducts
    research and development projects.

    ·     Responsible for collection, processing and quality control of
specialized computerized motion analysis measurements including
kinetics and EMG of subjects undergoing testing in the Biomotion
    Laboratory.
