Speed Skating Velocity Measurements

While watching coverage of Olympic speed skating from
Torino, I've noticed live, constant tracking of
individual skaters' velocity during the course of the
event. This as opposed to split times one is
accustomed to seeing in downhill skiing or track and
field.

Is anyone of aware of the means by which these
measurements are obtained?
