    DEPARTMENT OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
    THE CLEVELAND CLINIC FOUNDATION

    TWO NEW POSITIONS

    1. Cardiac Assist and Replacement
    The Department of Biomedical Engineering is seeking an individual with
    a doctorate in engineering and demonstrated experience in applied research
    and/or development of devices to assist or replace the diseased heart.
    Candidates without a doctorate but with considerable industrial or academic
    experience will be considered. The candidate will be the senior engineer
    in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists and clinicians
    conducting R&D projects related to the development of an implantable
    Artificial Heart.

    2. Heart Valve Mechanics
    The Department of Biomedical Engineering is also seeking an individual with
    a doctorate in engineering and demonstrated experience in solid and/or
    fluid mechanics of natural and prosthetic heart valves. The candidate
    will lead a growing multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists,
    and clinicians which conducts basic and applied research and device
    development of heart valves.

    The successful candidates will be expected to develop new research, secure
    extramural funding to support these activities, and participate in the
    graduate education program. Currently 22 Biomedical Engineering Graduate
    Students are conducting their research activities in the department.
    Appointment will be at the full staff level (full professor equivalent) at
    The Cleveland Clinic Foundation with the potential for appointment as a
    faculty member at The Ohio State University. The successful candidate will
    work closely with the clinical Departments of Cardiology and Thoracic &
    Cardiovascular Surgery. The Cleveland Clinic Research Institute is
    organized into eight interactive departments (Biomedical Engineering,
    Biostatistics & Epidemiology, Cancer Biology, Cardiovascular Biology,
    CellBiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology and Neurosciences) with 270
    staff and junior scientists supported by 240 technical and administrative
    personnel. The Department of Biomedical Engineering with a staff of over
    100 members receives funding from the National Institutes of Health and
    other philanthropic and industrial sources, as well as internal support
    from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
