  • Final Call for Abstracts 2006 MWGSBS

2006 Midwest Graduate Student Biomechanics Symposium

Abstract submission is now open and will be accepted until March 3rd. Details can be found at:
    www.chs.uwm.edu/neuromechanics/confhome.cfm

    Important Dates:
Abstract Submission Deadline: March 3, 2006
Meeting Dates: March 31st and April 1st, 2006
*We also encourage registration by March 3rd in order to help us plan appropriately.

The Department of Human Movement Sciences and the College of Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee are proud to announce that they will host the 2006 Midwest Graduate Student Biomechanics Symposium (MWGSBS) on March 31st and April 1st, 2006. The MWGSBS functions to promote and enhance student research in biomechanics by providing a collegial environment in which to exchange ideas. As such, only graduate and undergraduate students in biomechanics are eligible to present papers at the conference. These papers may range from idea development to completed projects. It is also the goal of this conference to promote interaction among students and faculty of biomechanics programs in the midwest.

We are also excited to host three speakers that we believe will provide a glimpse into the future of biomechanics research:

Dr. Joseph Hamill, Department of Exercise Science, University of Massachusetts Amherst - "Coordination and Movement Analysis"

Dr. Clive Pai, Department of Physical Therapy, University of Illinois-Chicago - "New Paradigms for Fall Prevention"

Dr. George Papaioannou, Department of Human Movement Sciences, UW-Milwaukee - "Validation of a three dimensional finite element mode of the knee joint with high accuracy/high speed dynamic radiography skeletal kinematics"

Conference information including details regarding the abstract submission process can be found at the above website. The conference will be held on-campus at UW-Milwaukee. Directions and suggested lodging options are listed on the website. Thanks to support from the American Society of Biomechanics, the MWGSBS is free to all attendees. Dinner on Friday night will be a fish fry held at a local brewery (Lakefront) and will be preceded by a brewery tour for all those interested. Thanks to a corporate sponsor, Innovative Sports Training, Inc., the beer tour will be free. There will be an additional cost (~$20) for dinner.

We look forward to seeing you in Milwaukee!

Conference Organizers: Dr. Kristian O'Connor and Dr. George Papaioannou
Program Co-Chairpersons: Dr. Thomas Kernozek, UW-Lacrosse and Dr. Jennifer Earl, UW-Milwaukee
