I am posting a message for a friend/colleague...
I am a PhD in Kinesiology/Biomechanics and currently have a business
working with veterinarians in the rehabilitation of horses. I use a
FES system produced years ago by Electrologic called Theraquine which
was marketed for the equine industry.
The propaganda from the Theraquine company was that there was a TENS
waveform "imbedded" in the FES to improve compliance by the horses.
The company is no longer in business and I am trying to find a
similar system to replace my aging one, if one exists. I need the
system to be able to influence the deep muscles of the horse which
can lay 3-4 inches below the skin surface.
Does anyone have a source of information about the differences in the
specs between the various electric stimulation modalities (FES, TENS,
galvanic, etc).
A friend of mine is an electrical engineer and did some sort of a
waveform analysis of the system and found it to be a simple waveform
that he felt was similar to the EMS unit I was trying (EMS 2000,
Biomedical Life Systems). However, in the first 2 uses of the EMS
2000 I seem to be getting quite different results in the contraction
of the muscles of the horse than when I use my FES system.
