Biomechanics of Hard and Soft Tissue Research Assistant at the
Orthopedic Biomechanics Laboratory (OBL), Beth Israel Deaconess Medical

Description:
The Orthopedic Biomechanics Laboratory at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical
Center (BIDMC) and Harvard Medical School (HMS) seeks a research
assistant to play a key team-based role at a major core facility, which
is focused on studies of hard and soft tissue biomechanics. This
community of approximately twenty students and professional researchers
serves as the research arm of the BIDMC Department of Orthopedics and
participates in many clinically relevant studies for in house,
collaborative and contractual research projects. Core equipment
includes materials testing systems, (Instron, MTS, Interlaken), and a
suite of state-of-the-art X-ray imaging systems (MicroCT, pQCT, DEXA,
etc.), kinematic motion analysis equipment (PC Reflex), as well as
facilities for in-vivo small animal research. This equipment and the
facilities support a variety of research fields including orthopedic and
osteoporosis research (including metastatic and degenerative bone
pathologies), dental research, bone-tissue engineering, comparative
evolutionary studies, and manufacturing quality control assessments. In
addition, the OBL has a spacious layout, located in the Longwood Medical
Center (Boston, MA) and is situated across the street from historic
Fenway Park.

Qualification:
The OBL is looking for a qualified candidate that has strong
interpersonal skills, works well with a team, enthusiastic and hard
working. The candidate should also be experienced with LabView and PC
Reflex (and measurement of spatial relationships), and proficient MATLAB
programmer. Familiarity with C, C++, and Java are a plus. Candidate
will be responsible for all dynamic testing and analysis of hard and
soft tissue performed at the OBL. Candidate must have a bachelor's
degree in mechanical engineering (or other relevant engineering
discipline) and 2-3 years of work experience or hold a master's degree
in mechanical engineering (or other relevant engineering discipline).
Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's educational level and
work experience.
