Motivation
This workshop deals with Multi-objective Problems (MOPs) in biological, artificial, and mixed (interacting) systems. It concerns analogies, with respect to MOPs, between the natural and the artificial. Such analogies could possibly support learning from nature to improve the design of artificial systems, and learning from the development of artificial systems to better understand nature.
MOPs are known to be important in fields such as operation research and engineering design, as well as in various scientific topics. Recent developments in computational tools for MOPs, and in particular Multi-objective Evolutionary Algorithms (MOEA), provide an opportunity for the cybernetic research community to explore cybernetics in the framework of MOP. In fact, there is much evidence of increasing interest in MOPs with respect to the development of artificial systems. It is expected that such developments would help understanding nature.
The planned workshop is intended to become a meeting place for MOP researchers from engineering and science, MOP researchers from academy and industry, as well as for developers of computational tools for MOP. It is expected that MOC 2006 will support synergy among the attendants that will lead to new developments in MOC.
