Dear Colleagues:
"STEP: A Strategy for the EuroPhysiome" is a Coordination Action
funded by the European Commission which designed to provide coherence
to European activities related to the human physiome by creating an
integrated framework which can accelerate the progress of the
European teams by reducing redundancy, enhancing compatibility and
encouraging community action and the common development of resources.
STEP commenced in January 2006 and will deliver its final roadmap for
future European physiome-related activity in March 2007.
As part of this process, STEP is running a conference, "Towards the
Virtual Physiological Human", on 5-7 November 2006 in Brussels, which
will be open to all. This conference will be preceded by
Internet-based discussions which will identify the contentious or
intractable issues to which the majority of the time of the
conference should be devoted. Thus, full details of the programme
will not be available until shortly before the conference.
It is assumed that there will be a mixture of plenary and parallel
session and that the precise timetable will be fairly fluid to allow
time to cover particularly "hot" topics that may emerge during the
discussions.
We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic support already offered
to the project by many eminent figures. We expect a dynamic and
memorable event, far removed from a conventional conference. There
will be no registration fee, but the number of delegates will be
limited by the physical capacity of the venue.
If you wish to be kept fully informed about the start of the
Internet-based discussions, how you can participate in them and
monitor their progress, and the opening of the conference
registration, please join the STEP mailing list by contacting Prajay
Kamat at prajay.kamat@luton.ac.uk.
The home page of the STEP project can be found at http://www.europhysiome.org.
We hope to meet many of you at the conference in November.
