grant and the general aims of the research are to investigate the influence
of mechanical signals on the remodeling response of intervertebral disc
cells in order to isolate those factors that accelerate degenerative disc
disease and cause low back pain. Specific projects include investigations of
the mechanics and biology of the intervertebral disc with animal and
cell/tissue culture models. Responsibilities include support of ongoing
projects, development of upcoming projects, and general lab management
