A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Human
Performance Laboratory, Landon Center on Aging, at the University of
Kansas Medical Center. The initial appointment will be for one year
with the possibility of two additional years following evaluation.

Current funded projects are focused on studying the effects of
cardiovascular fitness on motor and cognitive function in chronic stroke
survivors. This rehabilitation intervention research is a pilot study
that incorporates the use of neuroimaging, motor control/learning and
cognitive testing post-stroke. We anticipate the results of this
research will assist in designing future clinical trials.

This fulltime position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day
operation of the project including: a) subject recruitment, b) data
collection and analysis, c) delivery of the intervention, d) data
management, e) presenting results of the research at conferences, and f)
contributing to publications. Opportunities to develop complementary
lines of research as well as to participate in other investigations of
impairments related to stroke are also available.

The ideal candidate will have earned a PhD in the areas motor control,
biomechanics, neuroscience or a related field. The ability to interact
with aged and disabled populations is needed. Experience with
conducting motor control/biomechanics experiments is necessary.
Technical expertise using data collection systems such as force/torque
transducers and EMG is desired. Previous experience in analyzing and
interpreting kinetic and kinematic data using LabView or MatLab software
    is also desired.

The Human Performance Laboratory within Landon Center on Aging at the
University of Kansas provides an outstanding interactive environment
that uses state-of-the-art equipment. Within campus, we have
collaborations with the Hoglund Brain Imaging Center, Center for
Clinical Research, Mechanical Engineering, Physical Therapy and
Rehabilitation Sciences, and Neurology. We also collaborate with
investigators at Marquette University and the University of British
    Columbia on various projects.

Interested applicants should send their curriculum vitae, contact
information for three references and a letter describing their research
    interests to Barbara Quaney, bquaney@kumc.edu
