POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE; IN-VIVO SPINE BIOMECHANICS
    Bone and Joint Center
    Department of Orthopaedic Surgery
    Henry Ford Health System

A Post-Doctoral Research Associate position is available in the area of
in-vivo spine biomechanics. Qualifications include a PhD
in bioengineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field with an
emphasis on the mechanical and biological behavior of the spine or
    intervertebral disc.

The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team of five
investigators with complementary research programs examining various
aspects of the musculoskeletal system. The Bone and Joint Center has
expertise and well-equipped facilities for motion analysis, biomechanics,
musculoskeletal modeling, computational mechanics, 3D imaging, animal
models, cell biology, histology, biochemistry and molecular biology. In
addition to excellent conventional facilities for supporting research in
all of these areas, the post-doctoral research associate will have access
to a unique biplane x-ray system designed for human in-vivo measurement of
bone and joint mechanics. Preliminary testing with this system indicates
that in-vivo spine motion can be measured with a model-based tracking
technique (i.e., a technique that does not require any implanted markers)
to a 3D accuracy of within approximately 0.5 mm and 1°.

Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated research
potential, a record of scholarly activity including peer-reviewed
publications, a strong desire for multidisciplinary collaborations, and
expertise in experimental measurement of spine biomechanics. Applicants
should send their CV, a statement of their long-term research goals, and
the names and addresses of three references to the address below.
Consideration of applicants will continue until the position is
filled. Electronic applications will not be accepted.
