A research assistantship is immediately available in the Movement
Science Laboratory at Montana State University. The successful applicant
will pursue a master's degree in biomechanics working on a project
currently funded by a private research foundation. This work is focused
on improving gross motor performance and enhancing the functional
capacity of children with cerebral palsy who are restricted to
wheelchairs by applying the intervention of a dynamic seating system.
The project will require close interaction with clinicians and
representatives for the wheelchair designer/manufacturer. Applicants
should have a bachelor's degree in exercise science or kinesiology,
mechanical or biomedical engineering, or related field. Previous
research experience is highly desired. Excellent written/verbal
communication skills will be essential to the project.
Montana State University was founded in 1893 as a Land Grant University.
Currently, the University enrolls about 12,000 students and has a
faculty and staff of 3,525. MSU is located in Bozeman, an extended
community of about 40,000 nestled in the Rocky Mountains in southwest
Montana, 90 miles north of Yellowstone National Park. Outdoor
recreational opportunities are unsurpassed, including day hiking in
national forests within minutes from campus, backpacking in the many
forests, national parks, and wilderness areas in the region, fishing in
the some of the best blue-ribbon trout streams in the United States,
mountain biking, white water sports, camping, hunting, downhill skiing
and snowboarding at three nearby outstanding ski areas, and
cross-country skiing.
