PhD position on multiscale modelling of implant-bone interface

Description: a two-year research assistantship is available at the
Divsion of Biomechanics and Engineering Design of K.U.Leuven,
Belgium. The candidate will develop a multiscale finite element-based
model of the implant-bone interface at different stages of healing.
Starting from implant and tissue properties and structure at the
mesoscopic level the aim is to predict the macroscopic mechanical
behaviour of the implant-bone system. Simulations will be validated
by means of mechanical tests on implant-bone systems, with an
    emphasis on oral implants.

Research partners: Division of Biomechanics and Engineering Design,
Department of Materials Engineering, Division of Prosthetic Dentistry
    at K.U.Leuven

Period: September 2006 - August 2008. Extension of the mandate with
an additional 2-year period is expected in order to enable the
    candidate to obtain a PhD.

Requirements: candidates must have an MSc in Engineering
(preferentially Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering) or
Physics. Experience with FE is a plus.

Contact: interested candidates must send a CV to Hans Van Oosterwyck
    (Hans.VanOosterwyck@mech.kuleuven.be) before August 15, 2006.
