    PhD in Computational Biomechanics

Cardiff University (Engineering and College of Medicine) have a PhD programme
for 3 years in the area of modelling of the human face. The salary is approx
17,500 Euro per year and fees are fully paid. Other details can be found on
    .

This research project focuses on the mechanical prediction of the essential
anatomical structures of the human face: skin, soft tissues, muscles and bone
structures. At present no numerically validated models are available for facial
tissues although various researchers have reported on recent developments. In
this project we intend to utilize 3D dynamic and static surface, static 3D
radiographic data and computational software (Finite Element) to develop an
accurate model of the biomechanics of the face in which the bone structure is
modelled as linear elastic and the soft tissue a non-linear viscoelastic.

Please contact Prof. John Middleton of Prof. Stephen
    Richmond for further details.
