    Hello,

Please post the following job announcement at Biomech-L.

    Thanks.

    Li-Qun

Postdoctoral Fellowships in Engineering and Neuroscience:
    Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago/Northwestern University

The Sensory Motor Performance Program (SMPP) at the Rehabilitation
Institute of Chicago (RIC) has several new openings for postdoctoral
fellows, funded from US Federal and private grants. The RIC is a
Northwestern University affiliated academic hospital, offering
rehabilitation care to patients with an array of neural and
musculoskeletal disorders. The RIC is part of the McGaw hospital
complex, next to Lake Michigan, in an attractive part of Chicago.

The fellowships are designed to help train postdoctoral researchers
to undertake intensive research in the broad area of movement
biomechanics and rehabilitation, with particular applications to
stroke and other neurological disorders. This training is to take
place under the supervision of one or more of the research faculty of
the RIC and of Northwestern University.

The SMPP houses 14 laboratories, with investigators working on a
broad array of problems relating to mechanisms of motor impairment in
    human neurological disorders.

Potential areas of research training include, but are not limited to:

    1. Robotics applications for diagnosis and treatment of neurological
impairments in either the upper or lower extremity.
    2. Ultrasonic and microscopic evaluations of pathological changes of
muscle fibers and tendons in spastic hypertonia in stroke or spinal cord injury
    3. Impact of rehabilitation interventions on the neuromuscular system
    in neurological impairments
    4. Disturbances of reflex function and non-reflex properties of the
neuromuscular system in spastic hypertonia of stroke and SCI
    5. Impaired movement kinematics in neurological disorders
    6. Single motor unit and surface EMG analysis as indicators of
abnormal neuronal activation in stroke and SCI
    7. Computer modeling and simulation of muscle actions in neurological
    and musculoskeletal disorders

Applicants will have been awarded a Ph.D. within the past 5 years,
typically training in engineering, neuroscience, or related
disciplines. Prospective applicants should consult relevant RIC web
pages for further information about our research programs and related
clinical activities. More detailed descriptions can be found on
    www.smpp.northwestern.edu.

Candidates should apply by sending an email to Dr. Li-Qun Zhang (see
address below) in which they describe their recent research
activities, and outline their future research interests.

Applicants should also identify areas of SMPP research and potential
research mentors that appear to be of interest. Please include a
recent CV, and a list of 3 - 4 referees. US citizenship or permanent
resident status preferred, but not mandatory.

Applications and inquiries should be sent to

    Li-Qun Zhang, Ph.D.
