    Title: Biomechanical Research Assistant
    Location: The Medical Education and Research Institute of Colorado (MERIC),
    Colorado Springs, CO

    The Medical Education and Research Institute of Colorado (MERIC) is a
    non-profit institute that provides research and surgical training
    opportunities for medical professionals. The goal of the research program
    is to help clinicians improve the treatment methods prescribed for their
    patients. Physicians specializing in orthopedic surgery and pain management
    work with MERIC researchers to develop the basic science and clinical follow
    up studies performed in the laboratory. The laboratory is equipped with
    mechanical testing equipment and computational facilities, which are used
    for musculoskeletal biomechanics research.

    Job Start date: October, 2006

    Description: Full-time biomechanical research position

    Responsibilities:
    1. Preparation and testing of cadaveric specimens on the MTS
    servo-hydraulic testing machine.
    2. Implementation of testing methods for simulating joint function and
    measuring pressure distributions.
    3. Analysis of experimental results.
    4. Assist in journal publication of papers.
    5. Assist with medical image reconstruction and computational simulation of
    joint function via MatLab.
    6. Assist Clinical Research Associate with data analysis.
    7. Maintain website and manage computer network.
    8. Provide assistance to staff and students who utilize the laboratory
    space and equipment.

    Qualifications: BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
    Post-doctoral candidates interested in focusing on computational modeling
    will also be considered. Previous experience operating a servo-hydraulic
    testing machine and computer skills including MatLab, Microsoft Word, Excel
    and/or Access and FrontPage is preferred.
