Digital Imaging in Orthopaedic Surgery: a Dialogue between Physicians and
Engineers.
April 19-21, 1990 at the Don Cesar Resort in St. Petersburg, FLA USA
Sponsored by the Maurice E. Muller Foundation of North America and the
University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, USA
The purpose of this International Symposium is three-fold:
1. To provide the orthopaedic surgeon with an up-to-date overview -- as well
as future prospects -- of the state of the art instrumentation, methodologies,
and implementations of digital imaging as applied to the practical needs and
problems in orthopaedic surgery. Engineers will review the basic principles,
technologies, advantages, and limitations governing digital imaging.
2. Physicians currently employing various aspects of digital imaging in their
clinical work and research will report their practical experiences, discuss
the advantages and shortcomings, and speculate on future prospects as
envisioned by the physician.
3. Formal and informal discussions between practising physicians and engineers
will be directed to address the needs and expectations of the physicians both
at the current time and into the future.
This meeting will be composed of four sessions with each session
containing six speakers. The sessions are: (1) IMAGE ACQUISITION AND
DIGITIZATION; (2) IMAGE ARCHIVING, COMPRESSION AND COMMUNICATION; (3) IMAGE
MANIPULATION AND DISPLAY; (4) QUANTITATIVE IMAGE ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION.
Each talk will last approximately 20 minutes and have a 10 minute discussion.
Half of the speakers will be technical and half will be clinical. The mix of
speakers reflects the intended audience of orthopedic surgeons and applied
image processing people. The cost is $125/participant, $75. for students until
January 31, 1990. After the 31st, the cost for students becomes $100. Univ. of
Penn. designates this Symposium for 20 credit hours of Category I of the
Physician Recognition Award of the AMA.
