POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Research Engineer
Department: Biomedical Engineering
Cleveland Clinic Foundation (Main Campus), Cleveland, OH
JOB SUMMARY: Assumes responsibility for routine investigations. Performs independent analysis, investigation, and planning of specific engineering criteria, characteristics and features to meet assignment goals. Assignments normally cover an independent portion of a larger study or project. Performs calculations and/or experimental evaluations in support of assigned projects. Prepares sketches for component parts/assemblies and assists with the design and development of prototype models. Assists in various phases of the testing process. Identifies, locates and orders parts and equipment
Responsibilities include: 1) Implement and maintain platforms for documentation/model development/software management; 2 Aid in the development of finite element models (e.g. solid modeling, mesh generation) and run simulations; 3) Develop simulation code to allow finite element analysis software to interact with optimization protocols.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills and Physical Demands Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field required. PC literacy required. Must be able to interpret a variety of technical information in various forms. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Previous experience and co-op or internship preferred. Duties may require some bending, lifting, standing, and sitting for long periods. Possible exposure to animal tissue, blood borne pathogens, chemical and biological reagents, and moving mechanical and electrical components. Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination also required.
Preferred Background: Knowledge of mathematics (linear algebra, calculus, partial differential equations) and at least one computer programming language. Interest in computational modeling and biomechanics. Interest to extend and apply knowledge in biomechanics, solid mechanics, finite element modeling, optimization, and imaging modalities (e.g. MRI, ultrasound). Capability to learn different computer programming platforms (e.g. Python, Matlab), project management using wikis, software version control, automation systems, and database management.
