  • Re: balance and postural stability

    Hi

Thanks for all you responded. I received more responses than I
anticipated, with some people interested in such resources, some in
passing on their materials and others passing on a range of
internet-based resources. Below are all of the replies I have
    received.

    Thanks

    Justin

    Justin:
Find attached a PPT lecture that is part of our graduate course called

    "Multidimensional
Assessment of Physical Function." We focus most on doing things (e.g.,

    actually testing
posture & balance). You won't find all of your requirements in the
    lecture, but it may
be a start. Be advised that there are few citations, and I have deleted

    the images. I know
deleting the images might make the PPT less useful (and in some cases
    uninterpretable)
but transmittal of the pictures for external use might violate
    copyright
    laws. (There is no
problem with their use in my class).

I hope this works for you,

    Regards,
    Jeff Ives

    Hi Justin,
If you find something useful then please pass it on, I'd be very
    interested.

I won't be able to provide you with usefull slides, but I recently
wrote a literature study on the preventive effect of balance board
training for soccer players. The lack of decent research and theoretical
background on this subject is striking compared to the widespread use of
these devices. If you want, I can send you my reference-list (the study
    is in Dutch).

If you go to www.slidebay.com you can search thousands of powerpoint
presentations. If you type in "balance and postural stability" in the
search window, you will find about 66 powerpoint options.

    Hello Justin,

You've probably come across the website for the
    FallsPreventionCenterfor Excellence
    (http://www.stopfalls.org/researchers_educators/re_bm.shtml ). I like
the balance assessment videos they have. Also Dr Pynoos has authored a
bunch of reader-friendly manuscripts on evidence-based strategies in
    Fall Prevention.

I have also used the CDC website as a starting point to look up
    individual programs (http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/falls/)

    Hope these help!

I don't know of any sources of slides covering those topics off hand,
but I do know of some fantastic papers on those topics. I'm not a
clinical person so the paper list might be incomplete but it will be
useful. I'll pass them along if you're interested.
