    Griffith Health, with ten schools, significant health-related research
    programs, almost 5,000 full-time equivalent students and around 400 staff,
    is one of the largest academic health groups in the Australian university
    sector.

    The School of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science is an integral part of the
    Health Group. The School is committed to providing high quality academic
    programs that are employment focused. Exercise Science is the School’s core
    program and is also offered with Physiotherapy, Psychology and Business as
    4-5 year double degree programs. In addition, the School offers a 2 year
    graduate entry Master of Physiotherapy program leading to an entry level
    physiotherapy qualification and a Master of Musculoskeletal/Sports
    Physiotherapy program for qualified physiotherapists seeking
    specialisation. The School is currently reviewing its postgraduate
    offerings in response to South-East Queensland’s rapidly-growing health and
    elite sports sectors. The School has 23 full-time academic staff, 2
    postdoctoral research fellows, 15 research higher degree students, 70
    Masters and Honours students and approximately 700 undergraduate students.
    In addition to anticipated growth in postgraduate and international
    educational opportunities, the School is keen to further expand on its
    growing level of research activity.

    The School of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science is seeking to appoint a
    Professor of Exercise Science. While the primary duty will be to provide
    academic leadership in the areas of exercise science and physiotherapy, the
    Professor will also contribute to teaching and curriculum development in a
    variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses across a number of
    programs.

    The successful applicant will have teaching experience in a discipline
    related to exercise science, as well as experience in course development in
    undergraduate and postgraduate programs. He or she will have extensive
    research experience with interests compatible with the current research
    themes of the Health Group and a substantial record of achievement as an
    independent researcher of international standing. The appointee will be
    expected to establish a strong research program, foster a research culture
    in the School and supervise research higher degree students, postdoctoral
    fellows and junior academic staff.

    The appointment to the position of Head of School is for an initial period
    of five years. In addition, the successful candidate will be offered a
    continuing position at the level of Professor within the School of
    Physiotherapy and Exercise Science.



    Key Accountabilities / Duties
    1. Provide research, academic and administrative leadership to the School
    of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science.
    2. Establish and conduct research of international standing in a field of
    exercise science.
    3. Teach, undertake course development and coordination in exercise
    science.
    4. Develop innovative approaches to academic development appropriate to the
    School.
    5. Build a successful team and drive performance in a supportive and
    collaborative environment.

    Conditions e.g. Salary, Superannuation
    Annual Salary:$119,193 per annum plus Head of School Responsibility
    allowance.( Salary package including 17% employer superannuation
    contrbution:$139,456 per annum).

    Selection Criteria

    Essential
    1. A doctoral qualification in an area related to exercise science.
    2. Ability to make strategic decisions, a record of building successful
    teams and driving performance in a large and complex organisational
    environment.
    3. National and international recognition for work in a research field of
    exercise science.
    4. A track record of collaborative research with academic, industry,
    government and community groups and the ability to develop networks to
    support the School and Group’s objectives.
    5. Extensive experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, course
    development and coordination.
    6. Significant experience in primary supervision of research students.
    7. Demonstrated ability to attract competitive grants and/or industry
    funding.
