Sports Medicine Graduate Assistantships are Available

The graduate program in Sports Medicine from Sports Medicine and
Nutrition (School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences) at the
University of Pittsburgh is accepting applications from students
interested in receiving a MS in Sports Medicine. The MS in Sports
Medicine is structured to provide coursework in the major academic areas
of sports medicine, physiology, biomechanics, injury evaluation and
treatment, rehabilitation, physical training, anatomy, education,
nutrition, pathokinesiology, statistics, and research methodology. Both
thesis and non-thesis routes are available. Thesis route students are
provided with research experience in the Neuromuscular Research
Laboratory housed within the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center,
Center for Sports Medicine. The research experience in the Neuromuscular
Research Laboratory focuses on issues central to clinical research in
orthopedics and sports medicine. Research includes the use of motion
analysis (video and electromagnetics) electromyography, isokinetic
dynamometry, metabolic instrumentation, and proprioceptive and balance
assessment modalities for the purpose of defining and restoring function
in the injured athlete and physically active individual. Weekly
seminars sponsored by the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports
Medicine provide students with access to the most current research and
clinical developments related to patient care.

Graduate assistantships are available within University of Pittsburgh
Athletics and UPMC Center for Sports Medicine to those who qualify.
Assistantships include full tuition waiver, stipend, and access to
health insurance. Typically assistantships are one-year appointments
renewable annually.
