PhD STUDENTSHIP IN BIOMECHANICS FOR BONE FRACTURE SIMULATION
UNIVERSITY OF ZARAGOZA, SPAIN
The Group of Structural Mechanics and Material Modelling (GEMM, Aragon
Institute of Engineering Research, I3A, University of Zaragoza, Spain,
http://gemm.unizar.es/ ) is seeking a highly
motivated PhD student to join a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and
surgeons working in the biomechanical design of a “smart” external
fixator for long bone fractures by means of computational simulation.
The main aim of this project is the design and development of a “smart”
implant (external fixator) for long bone fractures. Based on
measurements performed by the implant itself, this implant would
automatically allow to modify the load distribution at the fracture site
in order to optimize the bone healing process (“automatic dynamization”).
Two complementary techniques will be used in order to get a better
knowledge of the physical facts involved in the healing process and to
be able to predict possible results: “in vivo” experiments and
computational simulation.
The candidates are expected to hold an MSc Degree in Physics, Mechanical
Engineering, or Material Science and have a strong motivation to work in
computational simulation using Finite Element Analysis.
Interested candidates should send a CV with a cover letter including
their motivation to:
Dr José Manuel García Aznar
jmgaraz@unizar.es.
