Faculty Position in STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING AND MECHANICS
at the UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University
of Pittsburgh invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the
Assistant Professor level in Structural Engineering and Mechanics
effective September 1, 2007. Higher ranks will be considered for
exceptional candidates. Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. degree in
Structural Engineering or an allied field with research and teaching
interest in one or more of the following areas: steel structures,
numerical analysis techniques, computational solid mechanics,
biomechanical systems, infrastructure renewal and reliability, and
bridge engineering. Candidates interested in collaborative and
interdisciplinary research are especially encouraged to apply.
The Structural Engineering and Mechanics Group maintains extensive
computational facilities, including access to the Pittsburgh
Supercomputing Center (http://www.psc.edu ) and is
home to the Watkins-Haggart Structural Engineering Laboratory. The
Department plays an important role in the campus-wide Mascaro
Sustainability Initiative (http://www.engr.pitt.edu/msi/), which
supports research and education in the thrust areas of green
construction and sustainable water use. MSI compliments the Department's
focus areas as well as the existing gift from the Heinz Endowments used
to support the Department's Green Construction Program. Student
enrollment is growing and is currently at 280 undergraduate students and
