************ Group Leader in Mechanobiology ************
Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin
The Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery (CMSC) is seeking to appoint a
highly motivated, ambitious individual to lead the Mechanobiology
division of our research laboratories in 2007. The primary focus of the
group is trauma and orthopaedic biomechanics with particular expertise
in experimental and computational analysis of tissue regeneration during
bone and osteochondral defect healing.
The Mechanobiology Group occupies a unique position within the CMSC
interfacing between musculoskeletal biomechanics and cell biology. The
goal of the group is to understand the influence of mechanics on
musculoskeletal tissue regeneration in different healing situations e.g.
fracture and bone defect healing, osteochondral defect healing and
tendon-bone healing. A further aim is to develop and test therapies to
assist regeneration of musculoskeletal tissues, through mechanical,
biological and material means.
The Mechanobiology Group is an emerging group currently consisting of 3
research assistants (1 postdoc and 2 PhD students). In addition, the
successful candidate as group leader will have the opportunity to
further shape the group with the appointment of 2 new positions. With a
number of exciting projects scheduled to begin in 2007, this position is
ideal for the post-doctoral researcher looking to fast-track his or her
career with an ultimate freedom in research. The CMSC is involved in a
number of collaborations with both excellent clinical research
colleagues in-house and a number of scientific specialists from external
institutes in the Berlin region.
The ideal candidate should have a PhD in a relevant area, a proven
publication record, supervision experience, and the enthusiasm and drive
to carry out research and to lead in an exciting, highly professional
and multidisciplinary environment. Based on qualifications the candidate
can be appointed as either a Junior Professor (salary grade BAT Ib) or a
Group Leader, depending upon her/his expertise.
Since their conception some ten years ago, the research laboratories of
the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery have grown into a group of over
35 personnel under the guidance of Professor Georg N. Duda. The
successful applicant will therefore become part of a highly motivated
interdisciplinary team in an extremely successful scientific working
environment.
