DIRECTOR, MOTION ANALYSIS & HUMAN PERFORMANCE LAB
POSITION DESCRIPTION
AREA OF INTEREST: Motion analysis related to neurological rehabilitation
after central nervous system injury or disease (stroke, brain injury, spinal
cord injury, and related conditions).
SETTING: Motion Lab occupies ~1,400 of ~2,500 sq. ft. of a dedicated
research space. It is located in the main hospital building next to
state-of-the-art neurophysiology research labs. The lab employs a full-time
technologist and is supported by the hospital's biomedical engineering
department. The wealth of already acquired data ensures immediate research
productivity.
AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT:
* 8-camera real-time motion capture system (Motion Analysis Corporation)
* 5 force plates (Bertec) built into a raised floor
* 24-channel EMG system (Motion Lab)
* 2 video-cameras (Panasonic)
* Dynamometer (Biodex)
* Instrumented walking aids
* Access to body-weight supported treadmill training
PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENT: Highly productive and growing clinical research
setting that attracted more than $6.5 million in extramural funding since
its inception in 1998. Research mission is strongly supported by the
hospital administration and the affiliated research foundation. Close
working relationship with other researchers and clinicians. The researchers
have been involved in the Traumatic Brain Injury Model System funded by the
NIDRR since 1998. The hospital is the leading provider of comprehensive
medical rehabilitation in the region and named one of America's best
hospitals by the US News and World Report.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES:
* Contribute to ongoing research
* Develop own competitive research
* Apply for external funding
* Publish in peer-review journals/present at professional conferences
* (No clinical or teaching responsibilities)
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Ph.D./M.S. in biomechanics, kinesiology, or a related field
* Work-related experience in a similar clinical/research setting
* Record of research productivity
* Evidence of or high potential for attracting external funding.
COMPENSATION: This position is fully funded by the institution. Highly
