Rehabilitation Science, Carver College of Medicine, The University of

We are seeking a Physical Therapist with a PhD degree; strong
evidence/promise as a successful scientist with potential to develop an
independent funded line of research. Post-doctoral experience is
desirable.
Faculty responsibilities will vary with interests and experience.
Expectations include:
Oversee a clinical, applied, or basic research program.
Pursue extramural funding.
Mentor/advise graduate students in the DPT and PhD educational programs.
Teach in the DPT and PhD educational programs.
Collaborate with other Departments in the Carver College of Medicine.
Serve on various committees based on program needs and interest
including the DPT and PhD program committees, comprehensive exam
committees, and dissertation committees.
Graduate Program:
The Graduate Program in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science is
an academic unit in the Carver College of Medicine. The program offers
a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
degree in Physical Rehabilitation Science. Present enrollment includes
108 DPT and 15 PhD students. The DPT program focuses on doctoral
clinical entry-level training reflective of the APTA's 2020 vision
statement. The Rehabilitation Science program emphasizes research and
training of doctoral students as exemplified by over 53 doctoral
graduates serving academic institutions across the country. The
specialty areas of the faculty emphasize the underlying science that
drives the rehabilitative process. All graduate faculty have
independent research laboratories within the College of Medicine,
including a gait laboratory and a spinal cord research laboratory both
housed in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, two motor
control/neuromuscular/EMG laboratories, an exercise physiology
(cardiopulmonary) laboratory, a sports medicine laboratory, a
neuromuscular biomechanics laboratory, and a neurobiology of pain
research laboratory. Core research facilities in the College of
Medicine are readily accessible and collaborative opportunities are
available within the UI healthcare complex which for the 17th year in a
row is nationally ranked overall as one of "America's Best Hospitals."
