    Postdoctoral Fellow/Biomedical Engineer Studying Nonlinear Dynamics of Aging

    A 2-year postdoctoral position at Hebrew SeniorLife (HSL) with an academic
    appointment as research fellow at Harvard Medical School, working with Dr.
    Lewis A. Lipsitz and Dr. James Collins of Boston University in the area of
    nonlinear dynamics as related to: 1) Noise-Enhanced Sensorimotor Function,
    2) Mechanisms of Falls, 3) Syncope and Hypotension, 4) Dynamics of Gait and
    Balance, and 5) Regulation of Cerebral Blood Flow in elderly individuals.
    Support is provided through a NIA program project called the Research
    Nursing Home and NIA funded National Research Service Award Program (T32),
    and includes salary, mentored research activities, tuition support and
    seminars.

    Requirments and Qualifications:

    * Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, biomechanics or related field with
    understanding of nonlinear dynamical theory, motor control, cardiovascular
    physiology and biomedical signal processing.
    * Work-related experience in a similar clinical/research setting
    * Experience in human subject testing
    * Record of research productivity
    * Evidence of or high potential for attracting external funding.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    * Direct ongoing studies in enhancing balance control in elderly
    fallers and predicting the onset of frailty and falling in older adults
    using measures of complexity and fractal behavior from nonlinear dynamical
    theory.
    * Develop own competitive research
    * Apply for external funding
    * Publish in peer-review journals/present at professional conferences
    * Aiding in the development of a new motor control lab established in
    Summer of 2006
    * (No clinical or teaching responsibilities)

    Interested individuals should submit a CV and a letter of intent indicating
    their interest in by December 15, 2006 to: Lewis A. Lipsitz, MD
