    Faculty Position Available:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science at the
University of North Carolina at Charlotte is currently seeking
candidates for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level
in biomechanics. Candidates with a strong background in the following
areas are preferred: (1) orthopaedic biomechanics; (2) bone tissue
engineering; (3) bio-mimetic devices; (4) mobility and prosthetic device
design; or (5) biomechanical modeling of human motion. However, persons
with a strong background in other areas of biomechanics and biomedical
engineering are also encouraged to apply. The department has identified
bioengineering as an area of emphasis in addition to precision
engineering and computational mechanics. The successful candidate will
have the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary projects with
the faculty in these areas. Additionally, the successful candidate may
seek to collaborate with OrthoCarolina (http://www.orthocarolina.com/),
one of the largest orthopedic practices in the country and researchers
    at Carolina's Medical Center
    (http://www.carolinashealthcare.org/splash/) and the Department of
Kinesiology at UNC Charlotte (http://www.health.uncc.edu/knes). The
successful candidate is also expected to play a major role in the newly
formed Center for Biomedical Engineering Systems (CBES,
    http://www.cbes.uncc.edu/).

Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in biomechanics, mechanical
engineering or related discipline. It is expected that the successful
candidate will actively seek extramural funding to establish and support
his/her research program. In addition, the candidate should be committed
to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The starting date for the position is August 2007. Review of
applications will begin immediately and will continue until a selection
has been made. Candidates are requested to send their application
material including a vita, a statement of research and teaching
interests. Telephone numbers and addresses of three references must also
be included. The application package should be sent to Dr. Matt Davies,
Chair - Biomechanics Search Committee, Department of Mechanical
Engineering and Engineering Science, Duke Centennial Hall, UNC
Charlotte, 9201 University City Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28223-0001. UNC
    Charlotte is an EEO/AA employer.
