Greetings,
We would like to calculate shoulder moments in SCI patients performing
transfers from their wheelchair into a vehicle mock-up. We should be
able to capture body segment motions, but obtaining accurate forces at
the hands has proven difficult. The main problem is that the large
number of handholds employed during these transfers makes using force
transducers at each handhold infeasible. We could mount the entire
vehicle mock-up on a few force plates and the wheelchair on another, but
this would not provide valid forces for the entire transfer. Some kind
of force-sensing glove would seem to be our best option, but existing
glove systems are quite expensive and were developed for pressure
mapping, which means that adapting them to our purposes would be
challenging. Has anyone had any success with calculating reaction forces
for inverse dynamics using any kind of glove system or solved a similar
problem with a method we have not yet considered?
