PhD STUDENTSHIP IN BIOMECHANICS FOR VENA CAVA FILTER DEVICES SIMULATIONS
UNIVERSITY OF ZARAGOZA, SPAIN
The Group of Structural Mechanics and Material Modelling (GEMM, Aragon
Institute of Engineering Research, I3A, University of Zaragoza, Spain,
http://gemm.unizar.es/) is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to
join a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and cardiovascular
clinicians working in the biomechanical design of a vena cava filter device.
The main aim of this project is the development of a computational tool
for evaluating the biomechanical performance of vena cava filters to
optimise its design. The study will comprise determination of mechanical
aspects of the implant such as the force require for device extraction
at the end of treatment and for device detachment at early stages of
implantation. It will also explore models for predicting fibrosis in the
tissue due to device-vena interaction. Numerical results will be
validated with experimental studies conducted in vena cava in sheep.
The candidates are expected to hold an MSc Degree in Physics, Mechanical
Engineering, or Material Science and have a strong motivation to work in
computational simulation using Finite Element Analysis.
Interested candidates should send a CV with a cover letter including
their motivation to:
Dr Miguel A. Martínez
