PhD STUDENTSHIP IN BIOMECHANICS TO STUDY SELF-EXPANDING STENTS IN
CAROTID STENOSED ARTERIES
UNIVERSITY OF ZARAGOZA, SPAIN
The Group of Structural Mechanics and Material Modelling (GEMM, Aragon
Institute of Engineering Research, I3A, University of Zaragoza, Spain,
http://gemm.unizar.es/) is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to
join a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and cardiovascular
clinicians working in the biomechanical study of self-expanding stents
for stenosed carotid arteries.
The main aim of this project is the development of a computational tool
for the simulation of angioplasty to study the interaction between the
artery and the stent, in order to predict the deployment rate of the
stent within the artery as well as its post-operative effects on the
tissue (restenosis process). The tool will be validated with
experimental results obtained in carotid artery in pigs with different
models of stents.
The candidates are expected to hold an MSc Degree in Physics, Mechanical
Engineering, or Material Science and have a strong motivation to work in
computational simulation using Finite Element Analysis.
Interested candidates should send a CV with a cover letter including
their motivation to:
Dr Estefanía Peña
