  • Positions Available at the University of Houston

Graduate teaching and research assistant positions at the University of
Houston are currently available for Fall 2007. We are currently seeking
exceptional students with a backgrounds in biology, biomechanics,
engineering, motor control, kinesiolgy or related field. There are
several teaching and research positions available. Students with skills
in computer programming (i.e., Matlab), and biomechanical data
    collection are desirable.

    LABORATORY

The Laboratory of Integrative Physiology (LIP) was established to
explore the physiological requisites for human movement and performance.
Research projects conducted in the lab involve collaborative efforts
between engineers, clinicians and motor behavior scientists. The lab is
a state-of-the-art research facility that is capable of performing a
wide variety of human performance testing. Equipment in the lab includes
but is not limited to: Vicon Motion Capture System, AMTI Force Plates,
Delsys EMG, Biodex Isokinetic Testing System. The laboratory has strong
collaborative ties with the Texas Medical Center, NASA's Johnson Space
    Center and Moody Gardens Zoo.

INTERESTED STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO DIRECTLY CONTACT ONE OF THE
    FACULTY MEMBERS BELOW:

    Dr. Charles Layne.

Research Interests: Spaceflight & Neuromuscular Mechanisms

I am interested in the development of human coordination primarily from
a neuromuscular perspective. This interest is satisfied by investigating
locomotion and posture processes. More recent interests include the role
of somatosensory input on muscle contraction.

    Research Interests: Locomotion

My research focuses on the interaction of mechanical and neural control
strategies for stable locomotion. Current research projects in the lab
include exploring the determinants of gait stability, aging and
Parkinson's disease gait dynamics, and the unique gait patterns of
    animals.

    Tel. 713-743-9840

    Web: http://www.coe.uh.edu/database/facultytemplate.cfm?id=384

Research Interests: Rehabilitation of Severe Motor Impairments

My research focuses on the development of new knowledge and techniques
to improve function after spinal cord injury and stroke. My current
projects concern improving walking function, cardiovascular function,
and reducing the risk of pressure sores.
