  • PhD position, Brunel University UK

The Centre for Sports Medicine and Human Performance (CSMHP) at Brunel University, West London, UK is offering a 3-year PhD studentship to a highly motivated UK/EU student to commence before June 2007. The successful applicant will examine the influence of muscle and tendon mechanical properties on task performance in children and adults. There is scope for input to the research design and overall research plan/progression by the student.

The studentship is accompanied by a tax-free bursary of 14,300 per annum, paid monthly, as well as conference attendance assistance. The work will be completed in the Biomechanics and Muscle Function laboratories in the CSMHP. These labs are recently-built and house equipment including an isokinetic dynamometer, EMG measurement system, multiple force platforms, and real-time 3-D motion analysis and ultrasound imaging systems. Other equipment within the CSMHP includes magnetic and transcutaneous electrical stimulation, MRI imaging and numerous physiological testing technologies.

Applicants should have a strong motivation for research involving children, and muscle and tendon measurement. They should hold a Masters degree in sport sciences, biomechanics, kinesiology, biomedical science or a related subject.
