  • Senior Research Fellow/Reader - Permanent research position, UK

Centre for Rehabilitation and Human Performance Research, University of Salford, UK

GRADE: Senior Research Fellow / Reader (Grade III)

SALARY: £36546 to £47685 according to experience (annual and HERA awards pending).

    THE ROLE.

The successful candidate will work with the existing senior staff to lead the continuing strategic development of the Centre for Rehabilitation and Human Performance Research (CRHPR) as a key national and international player in its field. They will have a strong publication record with a minimum of four good publications in high impact peer reviewed journals since 2001. They will be responsible for leading the development of their own research portfolio to complement existing research in CRHPR. This will include the acquisition of research funding and establishing their own research team. Evidence of active collaborative links and post graduate supervision is preferred. The role is full time and permanent.

    THE CENTRE

The Centre boasts over £2.2 million external research funding from EPSRC, EU, Dept of Health and other agencies since 2001. There are three gait and performance laboratories on campus with £900K of investment ensuring state of the art facilities. There is a strong community of scholars, including the Professors, four permanent Senior Research Fellows, 20 academic staff, six contract research staff, over 25 post graduate research students and an established list of international collaborators. Growth continues to be very strong.

The current research within the Centre is diverse and the appointment would be made in any subject area that facilitates its continued growth. Key areas include lower and upper limb biomechanics, human movement modelling, assistive device design, gait, balance and posture, laboratory and clinical measurement science, sports performance and injury, and evaluation of therapy interventions from clinical and patient focused perspectives. Clinical areas of current interest include (but are not restricted to) stroke, diabetes and musculoskeletal disease. Applications are welcome from individuals from all relevant backgrounds.

Whilst the research links directly to the health related areas of Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Prosthetics and Orthotics, and Sports sciences and rehabilitation, working across traditional academic and health care boundaries is central to the success of CRHPR. There are active links with the following groups within the University: engineering, biomedical sciences, robotics, virtual reality and the 6* built environment group.
