    PhD Studentships, Department of Bioengineering, Imperial College London

    The world-class Department of Bioengineering (rated 5* in the Research
    Assessment Exercise) has available for October 2007 2 BBSRC-funded CASE
    or standard studentships and possibly additional department-funded
    studentships. It also wishes to select candidates to put forward for the
    Microsoft PhD scholarship

    s)

    Eligibility

    BBSRC studentships are open to candidates who have been normally
    resident in the UK for at least 3 years. Departmental studentships and
    Microsoft scholarships are also open to EU nationals. Lee Family
    Scholarships are open to candidates of Chinese nationality who are
    ordinarily resident in Mainland China or Hong Kong. ORS and Deputy
    Rector's Awards are for overseas candidates. Candidates should have, or
    expect to obtain, at least a good 2.1 or equivalent in a relevant first
    degree.

    Topics

    The Departments research interests lie within the following broad
    themes:

    * Biomechanics and robotics

    * Biological and medical imaging

    * Biophysical and physiological modelling

    * Medical devices and informatics

    * Neuroscience and neural computation

    * Physiological fluid mechanics

    Candidates should look at the Departmental Website
    http://www.imperial.ac.uk/bioengineering to find supervisors and topics
    of interest within these themes.

    For the BBSRC studentships the topic needs to be within the remit of
    BBSRC and preferably within areas that BBSRC is trying to promote
    (www.bbsrc.ac.uk). For the Microsoft scholarship the topic should be
    closely allied with the field of computing.

    Potential applicants should contact the appropriate member of
    departmental staff to discuss putting forward a case - see email
    addresses on the Departmental Website.

    Deadline: Candidates for the Lee, ORS and Deputy Rector's awards need
    an application in the College system by January 16th. For other
    candidates, the deadline is January 31st.
