The Laboratory of Biomechanics and Biomaterials of the Orthopaedic Department of the Hannover Medical School (LBB, www.lbb-mhh.de.vu) is offering a Research Associate Position for two years with the option of further long-term employment. Applicants are expected to have an advanced degree (Dipl.-Ing., M.S. or PhD.) in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or an associated field. We are looking for a qualified, motivated and creative individual who is willing to work in a multidisciplinary scientific research environment and who can provide evidence of the ability to work independently. The deadline for applications is the 31 of January, 2007.
The research areas for this position will be in the pre-clinical testing of newly developed implants and implant materials for total-joint arthroplasty as well as for fracture fixation. The individual will be responsible the planning, implementation and supervision of several research projects, and is expected to work and publish at the an international level. Research experience in implant wear or load testing are preferred, but candidates with outstanding credentials in other areas will also be considered. The applicant must also be prepared assume some administrative tasks such as the management of access to the various resources available in the laboratory, as well as serving as one of two laboratory safety-officers. Fluency in written and spoken German will thus be preferred. Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
The position will offer the candidate the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary environment with direct daily contact and interaction with the clinicians of the Orthopaedic Department of the Hannover Medical School. The work will be performed in the context of the Research Consortium 599 of the German Research Foundation (SFB 599: "Biomedical Technology", www.mhh-hno.de/sfb599 ). The SFB 599 is a cooperation between the Medical School, the Leibnitz University and the Verterinary Schools of Hannover, as well as the Technical University of Braunschweig and the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research. The Biomechanics Section of the LBB is well equipped with three materials testing machines, a sensor guided industrial robot, motion analysis systems, as well as several uniquely designed and constructed devices for wear assessment, joint-kinematic investigations and the characterization of cartilage properties.
Hannover is located in northern Germany geographically between Amsterdam and Berlin. It is a modern European city with a population of approximately 500,000.
