Positions for a Postdoctoral Fellow and a Graduate Assistant in Motor
Control and Biomechanics

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to work in the
area of motor control and biomechanics. One project is on locomotion,
with research ranging from modeling walking to the perception of
gait. A second project is on motor learning, with a focus on
stability and variability in multi-dimensional systems. Our
interdisciplinary research program bridges the areas of motor
control, biomechanics and engineering, neuroscience and psychology.
The overall theme of our research is the study the generation of
perceptually controlled behavior in biological systems.
Several experimental stations are developed and ready for use,
ranging from two virtual reality set-ups with a robot manipulandum,
3D motion analysis system with EMG capabilities, to facilities for
the analysis of brain imaging data. Our laboratory is currently
supported by the National Science Foundation, The National Institutes
of Health and the Office of Naval Research. For more information

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Physical
and Engineering Sciences, or Neuroscience with an academic record of
scientific excellence, independent research, and a strong interest in
an interdisciplinary approach to motor control. Expertise in
programming is expected (Matlab, C++, Graphics programming, etc.).
He/she is expected to get involved in existing research projects but
is also encouraged to bring to bear his/her expertise into the
research project.
The Department of Kinesiology at the Pennsylvania State University
has a strong focus on motor control and biomechanics with many
faculty members working on related issues. This provides a
stimulating environment for collaborations and interdisciplinary
research.
