*Online registration end: February 5, 2007

*Dear Colleagues:*
This is the final announcement for the 15th Annual Symposium on
Computational Methods in Orthopaedic Biomechanics (the "pre-ORS"
meeting). Detailed information on the meeting format and registration,
maps to the meeting site, and the sponsors for the meeting can be found
on the symposium website at:
http://www.pre-ORS.org.
*Location and Registration: *
The symposium will be held on Saturday, February 10th, 2007 in the YC
Fung Auditorium of the Powell-Focht Bioengineering Hall on the Campus of
the University of California - San Diego and hosted by the Department
of Bioengineering, 9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla, CA 92093. The site is
within convenient access via public transit to the meeting location of
the Annual Meeting of the Orthopaedic Research Society. Registration
will begin at 8:00 a.m., with presentations starting at 8:30 a.m. and
continuing through the afternoon in a single-session format.
Pre-registration for the meeting can be performed electronically at:
http://www.pre-ORS.org/preregistration.html.
We strongly encourage those interested in attending to pre-register for
the symposium online through the meeting website so that we can
adequately plan to accommodate everyone. Interest was great enough last
year to require that registration be closed prior to the date of the
symposium. As usual, registration and participation are free of charge.
*Driving Directions* (for details see map
):
>From South of La Jolla, Take Interstate 5 NORTH, EXIT on GENESSEE, and
TURN LEFT, Proceed to the fourth light at the top of the hill. TURN LEFT
onto NORTH TORREY PINES ROAD. TURN LEFT onto NORTH POINT DRIVE (1st
light), Proceed onto HOPKINS DRIVE (this connects directly from NORTH
POINT DRIVE at 2nd Stop sign, no need to turn), TURN LEFT onto VOIGHT
DRIVE (4-way intersection, where construction is taking place). At 1st
stop sign, Lot 502 will be on the left. Park in any spot. On right is
Lot 503, which is a controlled lot (general public is not allowed to
park here, except at 4 meters, also free on weekends). If this lot is
full, then continue on VOIGHT around to lot 508 (off of Matthews Lane,
2nd stop sign) and 403 (off of Voight Dr. which continues to the left
and entrance on right side at following stop sign).
*Shuttles: *
Cloud 9, http://www.cloud9shuttle.com/ Also check with various hotel
concierges to see if they have special pricing or arrangements with hotel.
*Taxi:*
Check with your local hotel. The price can run about $40. We recommend
the shuttle or a taxi as the preferred mode of transportation to the
conference.
*Bus: *
Please check http://www.sdcommute.com/ >From the SD Convention Center
to UCSD by muss may take about 1.5 hours.
*Objectives: *
The objectives of the symposium are to present the most current thinking
on the impact of computer assisted techniques in the field of
orthopaedic biomechanics, to educate scientist and researchers in the
use of these techniques, and to promote the use of computer technology
in biomechanical research. In keeping with the tradition of the
symposium, this meeting is a forum for "junior researchers" to present
their ongoing research involving computational work of any nature
related to orthopaedics. Therefore, presentations are expected to be
given by the student/postdoc primarily responsible for the research.
The symposium will provide ample opportunity for personal interaction
with faculty and other symposium participants and will be a unique
educational experience for the presenters. The pre-ORS is the premier
international forum on the use of a new breed of computer based tools in
orthopaedic biomechanics.
Special topics of interest for next year's symposium are:
° Multi-Scale Approach to Computer Modeling of Orthopaedic Tissue
° Finite Element Formulation of Non-Linear Constitutive Models
° Development of Algorithms for Simulation of Time Dependent Processes
° Micro and Nano Mechanical Modeling of Tissues
*Abstracts: *
As in the past, this meeting is a nonarchival forum for graduate
students and postdocs to present their ongoing research. /*Presentations
are expected to be given by the student/postdoc primarily responsible
for the research, not by the PI.*/
*Presentation:*
By submitting an abstract, it is understood that the primary author will
present her/his work in person if the abstract is accepted, and that
this work is not being presented at the Orthopaedic Research Society
meeting. During the symposium the authors will be provided with two
opportunities to present their work, 1) an oral presentation and 2) a
poster presentation. While it is understood that with the submission of
your abstract you agreed to the oral presentation, the poster
presentation is optional. We realize that this combination of an oral
and poster presentation at one venue puts a lot of strain on you. Each
oral presentation will be 10 minutes long with 5 minutes allotted for
questions. The poster presentation will be informal during the social
event in the evening. Due to the overwhelming response of submitted
abstracts we included an oral introduction of poster that are not
presented during the regular sessions. This allowed us to accept more
abstracts than usual. Details on format for oral and poster
presentations will follow.
