Post-graduate Research Scientist Position in
Human Movement Science

After our successful transition into a Collaborative Research
Center, the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery, Berlin, is inviting
applications to fill an immediate, full time opening for a highly
motivated, ambitious post-graduate research scientist in the field
of Human Movement Science to support the musculoskeletal biomechanics
division of our research laboratories. The successful candidate will
focus on the measurement of human kinematics and loading conditions
in the human lower extremities.

Salary grade BAT IIa (full position; approx. € 42,000 pa commensurate
with qualifications, family status and
age)

Improved knowledge of the kinematics, function and external loading
environment allows an understanding of the internal muscle and joint
contact forces, as well as providing access to the loading conditions
in bone and the surrounding soft tissue structures in human joints.
In order to optimise the clinical success and functional outcome after
different surgical procedures e.g. osteotomy, this project aims to
determine the kinematics and functional status in both healthy
populations and diseased subjects.

Principal Job Functions:

The successful candidate will specialize in the planning and direct
measurement of both healthy subjects and patients to address specific
clinical problems. Specifically, the work will involve functional
assessment and kinematic measurement of both patients from the trauma
and orthopaedic departments, as well as top athletes.

Through a close collaboration with our colleagues from both the
orthopaedic and trauma clinic of the Charité, the successful candidate
will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, surgeons
and radiologists, as well as having direct contact with patients.

The successful candidate must:

- have knowledge of functional measurement techniques (e.g. motion
capture systems, EMG, force platforms)
- exhibit a strong background in human movement science
- have had exposure to biomechanical engineering including knee
biomechanics
- work well in a team environment and possess strong problem
solving skills
- be able to assume responsibility for all phases of the project
with little or no supervision
- possess a minimum of a masters degree or equivalent
- have excellent oral / written communication and interpersonal
skills

It is possible that the candidate will pursue a Ph.D. during their
employment hours.

Since their conception some ten years ago, the research laboratories
of the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery have grown into a group of
over 40 personnel under the guidance of Professor Georg N. Duda. The
successful applicant will therefore become part of a highly motivated
interdisciplinary team in an extremely successful scientific working
environment.
