The Neuromuscular Research Laboratory (NMRL) within the Department of Sports
Medicine and Nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh is accepting
applications for a non-tenured Assistant Professor Faculty Position in
Sports Medicine with a specialty in Exercise Physiology.
The position is Department of Defense funded and will focus on research
related to improving physiological performance and preventing unintentional
orthopaedic injury within the military. Responsibilities will include
coordination of NMRL remote laboratory at Ft. Campbell, KY, assistance with
new and ongoing NMRL military research initiatives, initiation of
independent research projects that complement the current NMRL research
agenda, collaboration with the faculty, physicians, and doctoral students in
Sports Medicine, and obtaining funding.
The research within the NMRL focuses on issues central to applied and
clinical research in orthopaedics, sports medicine, and human performance.
Research includes the use of metabolic and physiological assessment
techniques, motion analysis (video and electromagnetic) electromyography,
isokinetic dynamometry, and proprioceptive and balance assessment modalities
for the purpose of defining and restoring function in the injured athlete
and physically active individual.
A doctoral degree in Exercise Physiology/Sports Medicine or related field is
preferred. Desired experience to conduct clinical research that is
consistent with research agenda of NMRL is expected. Demonstrated
competency in the usage of metabolic testing equipment and testing an
athletic population is critical as well as designing performance enhancement
training programs. Evidence of scholarly activities, publications, and
presentations and ability to contribute to research agenda as well as
develop own research initiative.
Salary is commensurate with experience (12 month appointment with the option
to renew), faculty status within the School of Health and Rehabilitation
Science, and all faculty benefits including health insurance, retirement
benefits, and tuition discounts for both self and family.
