Position: Research Engineer, Computational Biomechanics
Location: South
__________________________________________________ _____________________________________
This position is responsible for conducting computational analyses of medical devices and related anatomical structures. A strong background in mechanical engineering principles and experience using commercial finite element analysis (FEA) solvers or other simulation software is required. Rigorous analysis methodology, applied research experience, project management, problem solving, and good communication skills are essential.
This position will actively participate in the product development cycle and regularly interact with Product Development, Regulatory, and Marketing groups.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct computational analyses (finite element analyses and kinematics simulations) to support the development of medical implants, instrumentation, and materials
Analyze, interpret, draw conclusions, and provide product design advice from results of analyses
Seek opportunities to author technical publications and to present work in technical forums as appropriate
Partner with biomechanical testing and product development teams to identify, develop, and validate analysis tools to accelerate the new product development cycle
Assist in the planning and implementation of new computing initiatives and research studies
Follow good modeling practices, record keeping, and documentation in order to comply with internal procedures, industry standards, and external regulatory requirements
Prioritize workload and determine the level of computational complexity required to answer the analysis questions
Constantly strive to enhance efficiency in procedures without a compromise in quality
Interact with scientists and engineers. Interface with surgeons
REQUIREMENTS:
Ph.D. or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field with at least one year of experience in computational analysis of mechanical structures is required.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
*Solid background in structural mechanics
*Experience with commercial FEA software (e.g., ANSYS, ABAQUS, LS-DYNA) to perform structural analyses
*Experience with other computational modeling tools (e.g., ADAMS, LifeMOD, AnyBody, Mimics, GeoMagic, Amira, MATLAB)
*Proven ability to define issues to be addressed, efficiently work through problems and solutions, collaborate with teammates to reach the best solution, and document results in a concise and complete manner
*Ability to build customer relationships, understand customer requirements, and deliver high quality results in a timely fashion
*Possession of good oral and written communication skills
*Possession of solid technical writing skills
*Ability to perform relevant searches of literature in the context of performing job duties
*Rigorous, independent problem solving abilities
*Ability to work on cross-functional teams
*Ability to multitask
*Positive outlook
Basic CAD skills and familiarity with engineering design, drafting, and GD&T
Experience modeling non-linear material and mechanical contact behaviors
Experience building biofidelic FE models of anatomical structures
Experience in general biomedical engineering research
